What to Expect at Your First Midwife Appointment

If you’ve never worked with a midwife before, your first visit might feel unfamiliar.  At Colorado Birth & Wellness, our midwifery care is rooted in relationship, trust, and time.

What Happens at Your First Visit?

Your first prenatal appointment usually lasts 45–60 minutes. We want to get to know you, not just your charts.

Here’s what to expect:

  • A warm, welcoming environment

  • A review of your health history and previous pregnancies

  • Discussion of early symptoms, lifestyle, and nutrition

  • Labs and vitals, if applicable

  • Time to ask questions, share your birth goals, and get to know your midwife

What Makes Midwifery Care Different?

We don’t just check boxes. We check in.

Midwifery care centers around your voice, your intuition, and your full experience. You’re encouraged to be an advocate in your care, with support from a team that values education, partnership, and physiological birth.

What to Bring to Your First Appointment:

  • A list of questions or concerns

  • A partner or support person, if available

  • A full bladder, if we’re collecting labs

After Your Visit

You’ll leave your first visit with a deep sense of support, and a care team who knows your name and your story.
